Preludes And Nocturnes

Boooooorrrriiiiiing!!!

February 25th, 2009

Why am I so boring lately?  Well, in blogger land at least. I am fabulous in person, trust me.  Are you all sick of seeing pictures of my baby yet? I can’t comprehend that being possible, but I worry it might happen.

I did a card party at my mom’s house. A group of six women and they each made one card. I think they really liked it, and it was a good trial run of doing something like this.  I’m not sure it is a money-making venture, but I enjoyed getting out into a group and giving it a try. I think people would really max out at two cards. And I think it would be tough to do a group that big. Even with six we went in two waves.  So, yeah. I don’t know what that means for the ‘business’ idea.  But like I said, I enjoyed it and they seemed to, too.

I’m really getting into painting my cards.  I also had the realisation this week (while chatting with Laurie/mouse on facebook) that I must admit that I am JUST as addicted to buying craft supplies as I am to using craft supplies.  The high I get from the buying is something to just be aware of as it can really grab me sometimes.  I have some new brushes, and some new techniques to try out.  I’ll post some of my flower cards later.

It is snowing like all get-out right now. We were to the point of 75% of the snow was gone (and there was so very much to clear out).  Bah!!

My job is making me sad inside. I love my work, I love my classes, I love teaching.  I hate the politics of trying to do this without a PhD.  I have started looking into PhD topics, but I am unsure if I really want to go that route.  So I have also tried to think of other careers to start looking into this coming year.  Blah.

Now we see why I just post pictures of the kidlet and crafts, yes?

Yes, that is his sock. Yes, he pulls them off himself and then sits with them in his mouth.  Yes, he is a little strange.

No surprise, really.

Update of epic proportions!

February 19th, 2009

We all went on a walkaboo to Vancouver! We got to stay with auntie Leone and visit with many many friends. There was much sushi, ethiopian, and thai food to be had.  Malcolm managed to both pee and poop on Leone’s floor, blanket, and pillow. Like I said, epic.  I don’t know if it was the travel or the water or the foods or the stupid disposable diapers, but we had no less than four blow outs.  And I mean up the back into his hair blow outs.

There were also many baths.

We went shopping and I bought some more paining supplies and paper. We realised after arriving (and finding parking just off granville) that we had brought the baby, the mega stroller, the auntie, the sun glasses, the toys, the diapers, the wipes, the shoes… that there was no Malcolm FOOD.  Yeah, you’d think we were new or something.  So off Jim went to find a grocery store at granville and broadway.  Ha!  He did return triumphant with jars of baby food (malcolm’s first jar food), banana, and yogurt. We then walked over to Granville Island and had some fun shopping and avoiding the not funny magic dude (I just typed dud..).

We also went to Science World and Malcolm enjoyed the kids playing there. He thought that was great!

Malcolm and I got to meet some mommies from a board we’re on (well, I’m on it). They brought their two little ones, so Malcolm, Lily, and Wyatt all sat with their moms in a sushi restaurant and we visited and played. It was great!

Some visits with lots of people: Melly, Jess, and Uncle Jason.  And lots of auntie Leone time. Pics!

Before we realised the food was missing.

Wishing and Hoping

February 7th, 2009

A list of what I wanted to do this weekend.

*Go out Friday night and shake my money maker

*Paint

*Sew a blanket for Malcolm

*Make some cards and send out some gifts

*Finish mom’s birthday present (happy birthday to my mom today)

*Paint some more

*Read book three in a series my friend Laura got me into. She sent me #1 Poison Study for Christmas and I have read it and #2 Magic Study already. I just got #3 from the library today.

*Hem two pairs of pants

*Work on Malcolm’s room

*Laundry - fold and put away

*Visit with friend, Jenn

*Finish marking….

Oh yeah. That last one. It took me all week to get the first 32 papers marked - this left me with 37 papers to get marked this weekend. Does that math sound as bad to you as it does to me?

What I’ve done today:

*Marked 20 papers

*That laundry thing

Sad sad sad.  But I did go out last night with some girlfriends, and I am seeing my friend Jenn tomorrow (and her baby bean Olivia who is not even two months old). I keep thinking today that if I just do one more paper I’ll be that much closer to being done. But, I think the stack is regenerating. Like a Borg stack of marking. That is why I devised a tick-mark sheet to show the papers moving from To Do to Done.

Oh look! A baby!

Tax question (exciting post is exciting!)

February 1st, 2009

Anyone have any info about a non-resident of the US having to claim their global income every year on their US tax returns?  Geeze, they talk about Canada being the one with the tax-grabby hands!

I have no photo for this blog entry… oh, who am I kidding. I’ll dig up something.

This one is called, “I likes Milks”
