Jobs

March 30th, 2007

It is that time of the year again!  (month?) I’ve just sent out a job app with revamped CV and spiffy cover letter.  So how much does it suck to read your previous cover letter sent out in February to wonderful job and spot two typos in it.  AHHHH!!!!  I want to mail them back and be like “oh, I see that - I don’t usually.. it was rather hectic and I was doing this on my lunch break as I work full time and, um,  oh shit.”

*thbllltttttttttt*

Yeah, so I have three jobs on my list for this weekend.  One closes today, one on Monday, and one at the end of April but I might as well just get that out there.  These jobs are kinda whoooooo as they will absolutely mean a move.  I’m just opening myself up to anything within the province of BC.  Or, um, Canada.

Na, just BC.

And poor Jim.  Hey, move on up and get everything there just in time to move somewhere else.  Or not.  We don’t know. We’re both still applying for stuff at the uni (sessional or part-time instructor gigs), but we just have to look a bit further too.  So we’re figuring between the two of us there should be work at the uni to get us through the summer and then we’ll just have to go from there.  In the meanwhile, why not apply and see what happens?

Okay, and I’m off to help pack a few boxes.

Mmm Mmm Good!

March 28th, 2007

Jim and I went to Jean-Georges today for lunch and it was wonderful! Yum! We each had two courses, natural juice soda thingy (Jim Lemon Ginger, me PassionFruit Lime), dessert, and the stuff they give you along with what you order.

Amuse bouche:

Trout sashimi on this little mini garlic toast, a parsly and lime reduction soup shooter, and a blood orange with a strong hard shaved cheese.

First course:

me- Goat cheese with beet pickle thing, a light foam, and crushed pistachio nuts. It was kinda warm and melted and creamy and rich with the nuts and then the tang of the beets.

Jim- Fois gras on a garlic bread with black sour cherries and pistachios. Decadoo. Totally decadoo.

Second course:

me- Arctic char with mushrooms, garlic and jalapeno. The sauce was a lemon infused oil and the skin was crispy and added on the side.

Jim- Lobster with herb and cheese ravioli and a Gruyere broth.

Dessert:

me- “Spring” cranberry foam with this sugar/date crisp, sweet potatoe cake in cinnamon sauce, pumpkin ice cream with roasted seeds.

Jim- “Late Harvest” beet parfait with dehydrated grapefruit powder and an intense chocoate square, brown butter ice cream, apples roasted over an olive sponge cake.

We each also had a lovely cappuccino.

After Meal things they add:

Homemade fresh marshmellows in grapefruit, vanilla, and mocha; three macaroons in vanilla, chocolate, and pistachio; a set of five chocolates.

I believe I’m still full. We even walked home afterwards :)

Walking Tour of NYC

March 25th, 2007

Jim and I have gotten out for two walks along our favorite route. We walk directly over to the Hudson river and then walk up or down along the park-thingy they’ve been building over the past number of years. This last year they’ve starte building up the north direction from where we are and on my last visit we found a secret pier that had just opened and there was nobody there. Within a week, it was getting pretty packed. Welcome to new york.

The path is cool as there is usually a separate biking/rollerblading ‘road’ and then a walking/running pathway. Most runners use the road thing, so walking is pretty good by new york standards. Some sections have rather huge ugly warehouse buildings on the river side so you’re walking through more industrial feeling spots, but they’ve done a good job at planting shrubs and trees to block the six lane highway noise and for long sections it is almost, um, naturish. There are even lawn/grass sections.

Yesterday we walked down, sat and looked at the water and talked for an hour or so, and then cut in so we could stop by Chelsea Markets for some groceries. That walk in the ‘normal’ area stressed to me how much I value the ability to walk easier along the path. Sidewalk walking is hard in nyc. At least for me. And I’m used to it and all, so I’m okay. But it was striking how much longer it felt just to get up to the market and then up to the apartment again. Along the Hudson I can kinds zone out a bit and just walk and talk and enjoy the outside.

A link to the Hudson path here and another page here.

Tomorrow morning we’re thinking of doing a run. We’ll see how that all works out, eh?

I’m here! And I finally remebered my log-in!

March 24th, 2007

oops.

I arrived and went to do an update yesterday and suddenly realised I didn’t know my log-in.  Well, as you can understand, I had a whole lot of ideas what my log-in could be - but none of them worked.  And I’m using Jim’s computer so it isn’t just able to do that automatically.  I tried putting my laptop next to Jim’s hoping they’d chat and my laptop would whisper over what the log-in was, but no luck.  And I can’t use my laptop yet because we need to find the log-in key for the wireless.  Why yes, it did just occur to me that we can plug my computer directly into the modem.

Hmm, interesting.   A direct connection to the internet.  hmm.

Okay, breakfast is ready.

Many Whee and Haa’s

March 21st, 2007

I’m not at work. Oh no no no, I’m at home getting ready for vay-cay-shon. So why is it that the night before travel is when one decides to download software (no, can’t take laptop on trip without software), put new music on MP3 player (psh to old music), pick out random shirts to take along that have not been worthy of wearing for months, and so on.

I’m also trying to get a travel pack of card-making gear to bring along. I may include a lovely gift from Allisoo who gave a very appropriate 1st anniversary gift related to paper (ie: card making!). Smooches to allisoo! I’m all in a twitter getting my card stuff ready to go. Hmm, can I take the entire Iris cart as a carry on?

And another Whee - Smellamee Melamie sent me the BEST. JOB. EVER. There is a gov’t job ad out right now for a career consultant thingy-ma-bobber that is ME. Me me me. And I’m going to have the mental real estate availabe over the next week to actually devote energy to doing up some job apps.

And I’m taking my WMST text with me on the plane as I’m putting together the outline for my course I’m teaching in May. Did I mention that? I got a contract for WMST 100 and it is four mornings a week for three weeks and I’ll be able to still do my other job and just adjust my hours because I’m now confirmed working under “old” boss rather than “new” boss and he was all like “yeah, sounds good.”

So I want to gather info on what people would like in a wmst 100 class, or what you all like in classes in general and so on. Whee haaa!

Snap, Crackle..

March 20th, 2007

I went to the chiroprator today and you know how it is when they poke you and then go, “um, how long has this been like this?”

Oh.  Um, yeah, forever?  What - why would I want my hip to move with all that range and whatnot.  Pish.  Then she made it so my legs were both the same length.  Again I think, is that also a problem?  I felt like I was out of some stupid Little House episode where I would be given my own special pair of shoes with wooden soles to even me out.

Look Pa!  I can run now like the other kids!

I have one day left in hell.  One day and then I run off for weeks and weeks!  You know it is bad when I’m looking forward to packing boxes and sorting paperwork.  (okay, and being in New York and eating sushi and Ethiopian food)

Wheeeeee!!!!!!!

Me Mom is Here!

March 17th, 2007

Yay!  So after driving 7 hours she then takes Yonners and I out for sushi.  Yay!  And then to London Drugs where she kept saying “do you want that” each time I looked at something - so I have some new foam tape.  Yay!  (She then pointed out that what Leone was getting cost more so I should pick out something else.  Leone suggested if we worked it right we could get more and more and more until it balanced out.  Regardless, I just got the foam tape.  Hey, I have almost a whole california roll in the fridge, I’m feeling generous.)

On the ‘poo’ side, I was at work until 5:30 yesterday.  Boo!  And monday is going to suck as registration opens Monday morning so there will be crisis after crisis (crises after crises?).  Boo!

But, hey, tomorrow is Sunday.  Whole full day that we get to have before Monday!

*dance*

About that Buck Stopping Here…

March 16th, 2007

I think I need to not buy any further stamping/card making/ crafty stuff for a little while.  But, I did buy myself AN IRIS CART yesterday from Costco!!!!

*does happy dance*

So I spent last night reorganizing my craft area of the living room/dinning room.  Leone commented that maybe I need to just start a craft room.  I suggested that is it only the pressure of keeping myself neat enough for the common space that actually keeps my spending in check.  I have now maxed out my storage units at three (okay, four - but they stack) and I really just want to make cards now.  And I have been!  I hope to update my etsy shop this weekend a bit after mom arrives and picks out what she’d like.

Whoo!

Time to do things right - sometimes means not doing stuff

March 14th, 2007

Oh my plans. My plans to write a perfect entry about our wedding day. And then, well, work happened. I really hope that I’ll have a few minutes tomorrow to write down some of my memories from a year ago - but I won’t hold my breath on that. Work is rather busy right now and I’m thinking this time-change is kicking my ass this week. I get home and I’m crazy tired (really, ask Leone).  Lots happening - getting ready to go to NYC, making cards, snuggling kitties - good evenings, but certainly less active and I’m needing to get to bed rather early.

And also talked to my sister tonight as she leaves tomorrow for another year’s contract with Doctor’s Without Borders.  But this time she gets to take her man as she married him and then it’s allowed.  Whoo!

I have a very interesting family.  They’re nifty, that’s for sure!

Lookie!

March 13th, 2007

Ohhh, ahhh - I have now discovered buying stamps online. A package arrived Monday afternoon. I’m peeing my pants in excitement about actually having some time to stamp. First I’ll show you what I’ve done last week and this weekend with the stamp Carmen ordered in with her order (we swap off ordering because then we can pretend we aren’t spending as much).

Last week’s stamp and cards:

And the cards I made:

And my new stamps from Monday. There was a ‘yarn’ stamp and a set of letters that I can form into words - here’s the combo of those two things:

See what I mean? Peeing. My. Pants.

Tomorrow is my wedding anniversary. Awwwww. I lurve my husband and I will see him soon. How exciting is that!! A year ago we were in Costa Rica and it was the most magical two weeks I’ve ever experienced. I will make another post just about my husband and being married and everything - hopefully actually make that post tomorrow, but we’ll have to see if work is as much of an ASS SUCK as it has been this week. Thanks for all the hugs and love and words of support. I sometimes come here during the day and read your comments from under my desk when I’m hiding.

xoxo
