Preludes And Nocturnes

Well Then

February 27th, 2006

That was okay. I mean I’m super tired and feeling about ready to drop. But I expected that.

Today was the first day of my new job. It was also the last day of my old job, essentially. I worked my old job on my breaks from the new job. I arrived home last night at 11pm. It is six pm and I need to do laundry and eat dinner. Both of those in a bad way.

But I wanted to blog.

So there ya go!

In Vancouver

February 25th, 2006

Which is cool as Melly and I are about to head out for shopping and eating and the like.

Which is sad because I left Jim behind in NYC - I offered to put him in my luggage, but he used reason and logic. Silly Jim.

So I’m excited about the job on monday, but needing more than four days of work clothes. So we’re off to find some nice pants (as I giggle for my UK readers), and get my eyebrows waxed and maybe a couple new tops.

Or not. There is always that silly thing where LOOKING for new clothes can mean the inability to find them.

In other news, I’m just starting week four of my cleanse. Couldn’t bring my bentonite clay as it is in liquid form (only had about a two dose of it remaining) so grabbed some powdered form in bulk so it was $2 and enough to get me through the weekend.

HOLY GROSS ME OUT BATMAN! It is horrible!!! It is what is sounds like in the powdered form - CLAY! I said to melly, this is like when I decided to eat one of my mud pies when I was little.

Which made me laugh a little.

Off to shop! Hugs to all!

Man, I’ve been waiting to post this FOREVER!

February 21st, 2006

It is now official. Real real official.

Finally!

I would like to announce that the contracts have been signed, faxed, signed and faxed.

I have a new job!

Starting Monday I will be a real employee at my uni. Full time! (If we want to get into the nitty-gritty it only runs until the end of July – but I’ll make more in those five months than the next year at my current job.)

I am an academic advisor – putting to use my years as an eldest sister telling people what to do with their lives!

This is a wonderful first step towards a goal I’ve had to get full-time work in the uni (unionized) with benefits and all the fixins! And I’ll also be able to access the first round of competitions for any further internal postings!

I’m so very very excited!

Random NYC Blogging

February 20th, 2006

You know how it goes - where there’s been so much that each day could have three blog entries … so there are none.

Yeah.

Rather than worrying about making all those perfect posts here are some random observations:

Korean - yum
Ethiopian - yum
Sushi - yeah, you know.
Dim Sum - mmmmmm
Grande Soy Lattes - life blood
And none of those had anything I had to avoid in terms of my cleanse! (well, not much at least)

Museums so far: Museum of Modern Art (thanks to Target for the free friday night!), the Whitney (so cool! and half was being set up for a big display coming soon so we only got to see three floor but it was half price which made me so happy as I can never make it through a whole museum anyways!) and a Corpse Bride puppet/storyboard showing down in some area between Soho and Chinatown.

Wedding bands have been picked out and are being sized this week.

Miles walked - toooooo many!! We were hitting the three hour mark some days with our walking.

weather - COLD!

Restaurant we made reservations at before heading to MOMA but then we walked the ten blocks there and walked up and down the street and then up and down the street above, and then one more above, and then around the block, and then down the street again, and then to the Barnes and Noble at the end of the block to check their NYC Zagat restaurant guide to see if we had written it down wrong and then check that we were on the right street, still in nyc, still in the USA.. and then again down the street as we had phoned them only three hours earlier and then finally walking into restaurant right in that area only to see the Indian decor being renovated into the Steakhouse and the workman who confirmed and then let us know we weren’t insane as the restaurant has a sister location that is getting the forwarded calls and not necessarily checking which spot someone thinks they are reserving for - one Shaan of India. Please note for your own records.

Number of cockroaches that crawled out of the tub overflow drain and onto my foot as I soaked in a nice warm tub after long day of walking - one.

I did not scream. But I did get out of that tub faster than anyone has EVER MOVED IN THE WOLRD. Screw the olympics. I kicked their asses on speed with that one.

Number of friends visited with/dined with/seen museums with: ten!

And tonight Jim and I watched Anne of Green Gables. It has been a wonderful trip.

Annika, please do mail yourself out here COD!
And Sarah, will sniff a prezel for you - but I KNOW I’ll get that look they love to give me here.

Mmmmm Korean food.

With a loverly 25min walk each way. And I kept the flowers from our plates and brought them home. Very pretty.

I’m in NYC!

February 15th, 2006

yay! Got here last night. And I woke up this morning at 9 local time so I’m feeling rather on the ball already!

Jim and I are just about head downtown (my phrase for outside - he tends to correct me and explain that downtown nyc is an actual place and we aren’t going there). So, we’re about to head to yuppie-mart and then maybe to grab some lunch.

Three guesses what I’m wanting for lunch. And two of those guesses don’t count!

AND - Jim went and picked up the goods for me to keep doing my cleanse while I’m here. So very nice of him. I wanted to keep up with it and we don’t tend to eat a whole lot of bread products anyways. Main thing we have chatted about is that I’m avoiding sugar so Jim is being very considerate and helping me avoid situations where I would have to turn down sugar. Sugar is just too harmful to my body right now. I’m sure I still have a little evil group of hardy Yeasts living in me just waiting for a bit of sugar to arrive so they can gorge themselves and do the victory dance and take over again! Little bastards!

(Yes, I do visualise them all and they have outifts and manifestos and everything.)

This Post is Not for Jim to READ!!

February 10th, 2006

So would the rest of you like to see some close approximations to what I’ll be buying tomorrow?

Keep in mind, these are not the real deal pictures as the designer of my dress is not offered online. But here are some pictures that will give you the various vibes:

It is like a raw silk. But without the nubbins. That’s technical talk. It is a crisp, heavy, rich fabric in a light mocha/creme colour. The type of material and the gathering

It is strapless - straight across (unlike this particular photo) and also unlike this pic, there is no hard break between the top and bottom. The bodice is extremely fitted with light subtle beading just along the top inch or so.
The Skirt front and the pleats

This gives a real vibe for the back and the fabric. It actually comes with a little train, but we’re altering that. The fabric

How the back will be bustled - but mine will be in smaller ‘gathers’ over a smaller section of the back. With the colour and the fabric, think fresh, real, whipped cream.

I think I might explode I’m so excited.

Why Bob Kicks Jillian’s Ass

February 8th, 2006

I’m talking about the Biggest Loser, of course. I [heart] Bob. He is the best trainer there is! He is supportive, builds teamwork, and provides actual tools that lead to greater communication between the people.

Jillian is just mean to people. And not the motivational mean. Not the tough-love mean. She is usless mean to people. Yelling at them and being all in their face. So not a good style. And then she wants to sit down and have these heart to hearts with them. She’s gonna tell them how it is. She’s gonna get down into their souls. She’s gonna explain the world to them.

meh.

And in other news, I now also [heart] Organza.
Isn’t it pretty?

Dammit! Dammit on a Wheat Thin!

February 6th, 2006

(That second part of the title was added because I’m hungry too.)

I wanted to check out the hair bobbles. So I went to the Store. The WEDDING store. And I don’t know what happened (yes I do), but I ended up trying on dresses.

DAMMIT!

I found two. They are this raw silk, simple, couture dresses. Yes. The one is $70 less than the other. It is only $1625…. I lurve them. I lurve them with a pretty pretty princess that lives deep inside me.

So if anyone has access to a Paloma Blanca 3590 or 3592 in a size 16….
(Diva collection - first and third one. The pics are good, but in person they are so much better…)

Or I could do some alterations on a Paloma Blanca 3560, 3558, 3650 size 14…

I’M DEAD SERIOUS.

Aarrrrggggggggggggggggggg!!!!!!!!!!!!

Spring Cleaning

February 5th, 2006

Of me! Me insides!

I’m doing a cleanse due to a health problem I’ve now had for a few years that has no real treatment offered when you chat with the doctor. “So sorry - just treat the symptoms okay?” No, not okay.

So starting yesterday every morning and night I drink this mixture of psyllium, bentonite, and caprulic acid in grapefruit juice. I’ve also added probiotics to my meals. I am not eating sugar. No dried fruit. I drink 3L of water a day. Drink green tea. No booze. No processed foods. No mushrooms. No bread (yeast). Etc.. Actually, I haven’t eaten bread in quite a while now. That and milk. I think I might be dabbling in a lactose intolerance so there went the milk, and I have tried to cut all yeast out of my diet as of January so there goes most breads. At least the ones I can afford.

Oh yeah, and the cleanse makes a suggestion about cutting out coffee - but I have chosen to do a little hand waving at that one. Yeah yeah, I have one cup of coffee a day. The world is a better place if I have my coffee each morning.

So there are still tonnes of stuff I have: chicken, fish, tofu, veggies (limit the higher sugar vegs) up to two fruit a day, limited whole wheat pasta or brown rice, sprouted yeast-free wraps, bit of cheese, yogurt, sugar free cereal, oatmeal, and so on.

I’m on day two. Based on my reading, I might get to be a bit grumpy early on this week. I figure it might balance out with my excitement over heading off to NYC a week tuesday. Which, you know, YAY!!
