Well that was a bit hectic! We really finally had the chance to breathe today after marathon planning for the past ten days or so. It is astounding what all we had to do to get this simple little wedding put together.
But we did it. In less than two weeks we did the bulk of it all. And we really wanted to do this while we were together (based on some very wise words of some wise people).
And now Jim leaves tomorrow morning. I didn’t go in to work today and will just work friday instead. We had a lazy morning with coffee in bed, then worked on some of the paper work for a bit, met Coral for lunch, did some paperwork for the CR lawyer doing the wedding, worked on some further research for our other destinations while we then honeymoon for two weeks after the wedding, went for spur of the moment Greek dinner *drool* and now we’re home for the evening!
And all the craziness of the past week feels worth it tonight - just being able to relax a little and send out notes to all our friends telling them *THIS* is where we’re going and *THIS* is the timeframe!
Boy we had some varied results with hotels and co-ordinators… One location pretty much replied with the vibe of “well, I guess we could do your wedding. If need be.” But they were so slow on any information at any level. Unwilling to offer any suggestions about transportation to/from their place, etc..
And the one wedding co-ordinator we were in contact with told us twice they would reply to our modest list of questions… let’s just say that hasn’t happened yet.
So we found someone else who had an intial attachment with their reply email that covered everything we could have possibly asked about!
We don’t have to have anything notarized or anything like that. Just good copies of passports, divorse papers, and an advance email of personal information. It will all be made official with a sworn statement once we are there. For $500 the fellow comes out to our location, does the wedding, all the paperwork, all the filing with Costa Rica and Canada gov’ts, and then sends it back to us in about 4-6 weeks translated and pretty. For an extra fee *blah* we will get it in 6 business days. We’re going this route as we need to start immigration papers asap so we can actually LIVE together one day.
I must say, Jim and I are so glad we’ve gone this route. The location totally suites our personalities and the travel is so exciting. We’ve planned rainforest hikes, waterfalls, volcano tours, butterfly and bird sancturaries, a one day gourmet cooking class with all local foods offered by fancy-pants chefs, tours, and we’re attempting to squeeze in BOTH coasts as well! If that doesn’t happen, we’re certainly going to get to the East Coast.
For food we have planned out a few fancy spa/resort meals - but also researched some smaller out of the way local eateries known for their fresh seafood, spices, and fruit.
I am so excited!
